Description
This package includes two separate parks. The first is El Chato Reserve, which has inside of it a short hike and a longer hike. Caseta is the shorter hike and during the rainy season, tortoises get together in a small pond just 1km away from the entrance. If you plan to go the longer hike to Cerro Chato, please plan on departing from your hotel in the morning as you will need 3 to 3.5 hours to complete the hike, and the driver will come back and pick you up at the entrance at an arranged time.
Your driver is not an official tour guide and may speak only Spanish. A guide is not required to visit.
The road to the reserve is one of the best places to watch land birds. Tree and ground finches, warbling birds, and cattle egrets inhabit the area and occasionally Pachays have been seen.
After visiting the El Chato reserve, the shuttle will take you to the Los Gemelos National Park, which has a hike to two volcanic craters that preserve a large variety of endemic plants and trees. Due to the high demand, the park guards have dedicated hiking paths to visit. Tourist guides are required to visit the site. The driver can serve as your guide but may not necessarily speak English. You can also hire a guide at the park entrance if you want one of the park’s specialists, but this is not included in the price.
Service starts from Puerto Ayora and can pick you up from your hotel.
